General Keyboard Questions
The keys on my keyboard are sticking and slightly harder to push.
This problem may be caused by something previously spilled on the keyboard. If you spilled a sticky substance on your keyboard, drain the liquid and then completely wipe the keyboard with a damp cloth. Allow the keyboard to dry completely before reconnecting it to your computer. For optimum performance, keep your keyboard clean and free of debris, such as food crumbs or dust. Keyboards should be cleaned with "spray and wipe" cleaner with either a cloth or tissue on a monthly basis.

In very few instances, there may be some mold plastic left over from production. If one particular key is sticking, you may want to check and see if there is any plastic under the sticking key. If so, you can gently pop the sticking key off with and remove the plastic underneath the key. Before you gently return the key to its position on the keyboard, check for dust or debris under the key. Any dust or debris can cause friction between the key and the circuit board and needs to be removed.

The letters on my keyboard seem to be fading.
If you have cleaned your keyboard with harsh cleaners such as rubbing alcohol, it can strip the lettering. "Spray and wipe cleaners" and those designed specifically for electronics are recommended.

My keyboard is not responding when I type or it is missing keystrokes.
Check and make sure your keyboard is securely connected to your computer. Check to see if there are any breaks or sharp twists in the cable. Make sure the connectors are correctly plugged into your computer (the connector will have a raised decal on the side that should face up when plugged into the computer).

Wireless Keyboard Questions
What do I do if my keyboard is missing keystrokes or my mouse is behaving erratically?
First, always check and make sure the mouse plug is securely inserted in the mouse connector on your PC and the keyboard plug is securely inserted into the keyboard connector on your PC. Compare the icons on both the cable and backside of your PC if necessary.

If connections are secure and you experience any problems with the keyboard missing key strokes or erratic behavior of the mouse, it more than likely means the batteries in either your mouse or keyboard are low (please note that battery life of the keyboard is longer than that of the mouse). A flashing blue light on the mouse indicates a low battery. Replace immediately. Remember to ensure that the polarity of your batteries is correct. After installing new batteries, remember to re-set the ID code of your mouse or keyboard (Refer to the next FAQ for help with this).

If the batteries in either your mouse or keyboard are not low, you may need to re-position your equipment. Try moving the receiver at least 8 inches away from other electrical devices. Interference issues can also be resolved by moving the mouse closer to the receiver.

For optimum performance, position the receiver so that it is at least 8 inches (20cm) away from the keyboard, mouse and any items that might cause interference. Items that might cause interference are as follows:
  • Computer monitors
  • Large metal objects (such as computer cases and metal furniture)
  • Desktop fans
  • Desktop fluorescent lights
The distance between the keyboard, mouse and receiver should be no more than 5 feet.

How do I set the i.d. codes (establish connection between my keyboard, mouse and receiver) of my keyboard, mouse and receiver?
Press the id button on top of the receiver, press the id button on top of the keyboard and then press the id button on the bottom of the mouse. The process of pressing these buttons should be completed within 5 seconds. If connected properly, the LED light will blink when the mouse is moved or during typing. If LED light does not blink, re-try the above process.

I seem to be changing the batteries in my wireless mouse very often. Is there any way to prolong battery life?
Because the VisiKey® wireless mouse is smaller and more ergonomically correct, it uses AAA batteries that by nature, have a shorter life span. To maximize battery life, use the RF mouse on a white or light colored surface. Dark surfaces cause the mouseÕs light emitting diode (LED) light to glow brighter, which causes the battery to discharge more rapidly. The mouse goes to sleep after 8 minutes of non-use. Make sure that nothing is bumping your desk or work area and causing the mouse to come out of sleep mode.

I find it necessary to re-establish connection between my keyboard, receiver and mouse very often.
Cordless devices need to establish a radio connection with the receiver in order to function properly. On occasion, it may be necessary to establish a new connection. However, if you have the receiver on any type of metal surface, the RF signal sent to the receiver from the cordless device might bounce or get lost. Also, items placed between the receiver and/or keyboard and mouse can cause interference with the RF signal.

My mouse won't wake up after being asleep.
You must touch the metal sensors on both sides of the mouse at the same time to bring your mouse out of the battery saving sleep mode.

Mac-Specific Keyboard Questions
How do I eject a CD/DVD using the VisiKey® Keyboard?
Press and hold the F12 key. (This is a standard Mac convention that works with any keyboard, not just the VisiKey® Keyboard.)
